Introduction

Help!  All the animals have escaped their cages at Beardsley Zoo!  Your mission is to round up the  animals and get them back to their proper homes.  Their homes are based on animal classification.  Classification is when you put things into different groups based on common characteristics.  Just like we use the Dewey Decimal System to group books in the library, scientists use classification to group animals.  You will need to find out the different characteristics of each of the different animal groups so you can get them back to their correct homes.

Task

Each member of each team will be given responsibility for one animal classification (bird, reptile, mammal, amphibian, insect, or fish).    Each member must research their animal class and  provide examples of the animals that would fit the description of their assigned classification.  Go to the Big6 Information Skills:  Animal Classification page for all the details of this report.  Then, as a group, provide the information on all the animal classes on the Animal Classification Chart.  Individually, you will create a PowerPoint presentation briefly describing each animal group.  Go to the Animal Classification PowerPoint instructions web page for details on the presentation.
