Introduction

Help!  All the animals have escaped their cages at Beardsley Zoo!  Your mission is to round up the  animals and get them back to their proper homes.  Their homes are based on animal classification.  Classification is when you put things into different groups based on common characteristics.  You will need to find out the different characteristics of each of the different animal groups so you can get them back to their correct homes.

Task

Each member of each team will be given responsibility for one animal classification (bird, reptile, mammal, amphibian, insect  or fish).    Each member must research their animal class and  provide examples of the animals that would fit the description of their assigned classification.  Go to the Super3 Information Skills:  Animal Classification page for all the details of this report.  Then, as a group, provide the information on all the animal classes on the Animal Classification Chart.  You will then, as a team,  create an animal classification movie briefly describing each animal group.  You will design the slides for the movie and you will record the audio for it.  We will upload the completed movies onto our website so you can share your research with the world!

The Process

Students will use an online dictionary to look up vocabulary words.                  The teacher will assign groups.

Group members will each choose one classification.

Individuals will research their specific  animal classification  and create an Animal Classification Report using the Super3 Information Skills.

Teams will then combine facts of each classification onto the animal classification worksheet.

Teams will prepare an  Animal Classification movie presentation using your group's animal classification chart and the individual research reports.
